
What are the Chakras?
In Sanskrit Chakra means wheel or disc. The Chakras are seven wheels of spinning energy aligned along the spine, beginning at the root of the spine and travelling to the crown of the head.
- Root Chakra (Muladhara) – Located at the base of the spine, red in colour and responsible for your sense of security and stability, it provides you with your sense of groundedness or foundation.
- Sacral Chakra (Svadhishthana) – Located at the pelvis, orange in colour and responsible for your creativity and how you feel emotionally.
- Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura) – Located just above the navel, yellow and responsible for your intellect, willpower, self-confidence and clarity.
- Heart Chakra (Anahata) – Often seen as the most powerful of the energy wheels, connecting to the base of your soul, coloured a warm green and responsible for your ability to love and show compassion.
- Throat Chakra (Vishuddhi) – Located in the centre of the neck, at the same height as the thyroid gland. This Chakra is blue in colour and regulates energy through temperature, growth and metabolism.
- Third Eye Chakra (Anja) – Located in the centre of the head, parallel to the middle of your eyebrows, deep indigo in colour. This Chakra is linked to perception, awareness and spiritual connection.
- Crown Chakra (Sahasrara) – Located at the very top of the head and coloured purple. It is the gateway to spiritual enlightenment.
