The Snowman – A Winter Meditation for Kids

At this time of year kids are so excited, they have so many things to look forward to but are also tired but may be finding it hard to relax enough to sleep. I like using this meditation either at the end of a yoga practice with them or sometimes just after their bedtime story to help them relax and drift off to sleep. I hope that you enjoy it.

Start off by lying in whatever position you find most comfortable. Close your eyes and be very still and imagine that you are a snowman standing in the middle of a garden that is covered in a sparkling blanket of snow. You are frozen completely still. Everywhere you look is covered in crisp, white snow. The sun is shining making the snow sparkle. Feel how peaceful it is in your snowy garden. Feel the warmth of the sun on your head, on your body and down your arms.

Very slowly feel yourself starting to melt. Starting from the top of your head feel the snow melt and drip slowly onto the frozen ground. Feel your body getting smaller and smaller, you are lovely and toasty warm, no longer frozen and getting ready to move again. As each bit of snow melts your body is transformed until all that is left is a pile of fluffy snow in the middle of the garden. You feel very relaxed, peaceful and still, no longer a snowman.

Take a big deep breath, wiggle your fingers and toes, have a big stretch and when you are ready you can open your eyes.

Season’s Greetings

Trish xx
